Activities planned for Independence Day

There’s no shortage of activities planned for this Independence Day in Merrillville.

It starts off with a bang as the Town of Merrillville hosts a fireworks show at 9 p.m. July 3. Free parking is available behind Merrillville High School, 276 E. 68th Place.

The celebration continues with the Town of Merrillville’s Independence Day Parade that kicks off at 11 a.m. on July 4th. The parade travels along Broadway from 66th Avenue to 80th Place. The Town is seeking parade participants and sponsors. Visit to download an application.

The Ross Township Trustee’s Office is also hosting a celebration from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. July 4th at Hidden Lake Park, 6355 Broadway. Entrance is $5 for cars/SUVs and $10 for trucks. Admission includes free hotdogs while supplies last. A fireworks show starts after sunset. The event will also have food trucks and a beer truck.
