Celebrate Independence Day in Merrillville

There are many great activities planned to celebrate Independence Day in Merrillville!

It all kicks off with a free fireworks show at sundown on July 3. You can view the display at Merrillville High School or from the Dean and Barbara White Community Center, 6600 Broadway.

The Town of Merrillville hosts its annual Fourth of July Parade at 11 a.m. July 4. The parade route travels from the Dean and Barbara White Community Center, 6600 Broadway, and heads south to 80th Place. New this year, the town will have the community choose which parade participants will be named as the winners. Voting will be conducted online starting the day of the parade. FYI -- Broadway will be closed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 4 between 66th Place and 80th Place.

Ross Township Trustee Eric Blackmon hosts the Fourth of July Explosion from 4 to 10 p.m. July 4 at Hidden Lake Park, 6355 Broadway. Admission fee is $10. Fabulous featuring Donnie Williamson will perform. Food trucks will also be at the event. A fireworks show starts at dusk.
