MERRILLVILLE HIGH SCHOOL & ANDREAN HIGH SCHOOL PARTICIPATE IN EARTH DAY RAIN BARREL DESIGN COMPETITION
Students from Merrillville High School and Andrean High School’s art club participated in the 2018 Northwest Indiana Earth Day Celebration’s Rain Barrel Design Competition – a public environmental art contest -- on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Porter County Expo Center.
Merrillville High School won second place in the high school competition level and received a $75 classroom scholarship. There were also middle/intermediate and elementary competition levels for the contest. Each guest entering the Earth Day Celebration received a ticket to cast a vote for their favorite barrel in the competition.
Merrillville Stormwater Utility sponsored the Merrillville schools by purchasing their rain barrels and will provide reimbursement for paint and other materials needed for their rain barrel design projects. Thirty-five schools competed from Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties.
