The Town of Merrillville is seeking requests for proposals for contractual work as Town Attorney. All legal firms and individual attorney practices are encouraged to apply to the Town of Merrillville Administration office (7820 Broadway) by January 26, 2012 at 4:30 p.m.

The Town of Merrillville is seeking legal representation for all municipal boards, Town Court, Clerk Treasurer’s office and Town Council activities, including, but not limited to; Redevelopment Commission, Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Police Commission, Unsafe Building Hearings, and all Town Council committees. There will be on average, 15 meetings per month to attend. Legal representation and advice will be sought, but not limited to the following areas of expertise; zoning and land use, public employment law, economic development, civil litigation, police department representation, and ordinance violations in Town court.

Prior municipal law experience preferred. The Town of Merrillville is projecting a retainer of $6,000 to $7,000 per month, with specific contract details to be negotiated once a firm or individual is chosen.

The Town Council will consider hiring multiple firms and / or individuals based upon their expertise for the various legal responsibilities, boards, and committees.
